Een groot voordeel van een desktop computer is het feit dat onderdelen vaak gemakkelijk vervangbaar zijn. Ze beschikken over krachtige hardware en bovendien kan je randapparaten zoals een muis, toetsenbord en monitor zelf kiezen. Daarentegen zijn veel desktops groot en zwaar, waardoor ze niet altijd gemakkelijk te verplaatsen zijn.
